Parking at Southport & Ormskirk Hopitals

Southport & Ormskirk Hospital Trust put in place new parking conditions at the two hospital sites in November last year. These changes, which included charging for disabled badge holders, have caused a great deal of upset and confusion for patients and visitors alike. In response to this, I met recently with hospital trust boss Jonathan Parry, representatives for disability organisations and residents to raise various parking concerns.

One of the issues discussed was the difficulty some people had getting from the car park to the actual Hospital entrance specifically the lack of wheelchairs. Jonathan Parry confirmed that if required wheelchairs and/or hospital porters can be booked in advance of a patients visit by contacting the main hospital switchboard.

In addition, a new pay station will be installed at the entrance to the Spinal Unit Department. This pay station will be of a height which can be easily accessed by wheelchair users.

When a new system is installed there are always teething issues so I am delighted that the management of the hospital are taking action to address the issues raised.

Please get in touch if you or anyone you know has any concerns regarding hospital parking.
